When Words Are Few, Faith Remains
Share
There are losses that change the shape of your days.
Recently, I lost a close friend after a 15-month battle with brain cancer. Even as I write this, the reality still feels distant, like my heart understands but my soul is catching up.
He lived overseas, so much of our friendship during this period existed through messages. Long voice notes. Short check-ins. Updates that carried both hope and restraint. We spoke about treatment, about family, about life and often, without explicitly saying it, about qadr.
I visited him two years ago, shortly after his surgery. I still remember seeing him then. Weaker but smiling, determined, present. After that, I saw him twice more when he travelled to visit. The last time was at the end of last year. None of us knew it would be the last.
Learning to Sit With Allah’s Decree
Grief has a way of making you search for meaning, not answers, but reminders.
During this period, I found myself returning again and again to words of remembrance. Verses. Duas. Simple truths that Islam teaches us early in life, yet only truly feel during moments of loss:
Every soul shall taste death.
Allah is Al-Latif, even when we do not understand His plan.
What He decrees is never without wisdom.
This is where my digital Islamic wall art became more than just design.
It became a companion.
How Digital Wall Art Became a Source of Strength
When you’re grieving, your environment matters. What you see repeatedly shapes what your heart returns to.
The wall art I create and surround myself with, ayahs, quiet affirmations, all served as steady reminders during moments when my thoughts felt heavy:
-
That life is temporary, but mercy is eternal
-
That hardship is not punishment, but part of the human contract
-
That Allah’s will encompasses every soul, every breath, every ending
Digital wall art has a unique gentleness. It’s always there, on a screen, a wall, a device. Without demanding anything from you. You don’t need the energy to read a long passage or listen to a lecture.
Sometimes, a single line is enough to ground you.
Sometimes, it’s enough to remind you that you are not alone.
A Quiet Dua for Those We Love
Losing someone reminds us how fragile connection can be and how powerful it still is, even across distance. Though we were separated by countries, our friendship endured through messages, prayers and shared faith.
I pray that Allah envelopes my friend in mercy, grants him ease in the grave and reunites us in a place where there is no pain, no illness and no goodbye.
And for those reading this who are carrying their own grief, whether fresh or old, I hope you find comfort in the reminders you choose to keep close. Sometimes, healing begins not with words, but with what we allow our hearts to see every day.
May Allah grant us sabr, clarity, and peace with His decree.
Ameen.
